Most people think of those infrared heat lamps as just a way to keep from shivering when they step out of the shower. But we look at them a bit differently. For us, these lamps are actually a secret weapon against humidity.
Dealing with the Damp
Here’s the thing about water vapor: it loves cold surfaces. When you finish your shower, the room turns into a steam bath, and your walls start to cool down. That’s exactly how you end up with mold growing in the corners. But these lamps don’t just warm up the air. They send out energy that goes straight into the walls and floors. It makes those surfaces vibrate—literally—which keeps them warm. When the walls stay warm, the steam can’t settle into droplets. No puddles, no dampness, and no place for mold to move in.
Keeping Things Safe
Water and electricity are a bad mix. We know that. That’s why we use quartz glass and heavy-duty waterproof seals to keep the moisture away from the filaments. We also make sure the fixtures are IP-rated, so the connections don’t just rust away in all that steam. One quick heads-up: these lamps pull a fair amount of power—anywhere from 200W to 600W each. If you’re putting in a few of them, just double-check your breaker. You don’t want your power cutting out right when you’re mid-dry.
The Trade-off
Shortwave IR hits you instantly. It’s fast. Really fast. But that intensity means the lamps get incredibly hot to the touch. If you hang them too low or don’t have a guard, you’re asking for a burn. To keep things safe, we suggest keeping them at least 2.1 meters above the floor. You get all the surface-drying benefits without the risk of getting too close.
