
Stop the Shivers: Why we put heaters behind bathroom mirrors
Ever step out of a hot shower and immediately hit that wall of freezing air while you’re trying to get dressed? It’s the worst. That sudden chill is exactly what we wanted to fix. Most heaters just try to warm up the air in the room, which takes forever. We do things differently. Our mirror heaters use short-wave infrared radiation. Instead of fighting the cold air, they heatyouand the things around you directly. You feel the warmth in seconds. It doesn’t matter if the rest of the bathroom is an icebox; the spot where you’re standing feels like a sunny day.
The tech side of things (kept simple)
Inside the frame, we use quartz halogen tubes. We chose these because they pack a lot of punch without taking up much space. They fit perfectly behind a mirror without making the whole thing bulky. The heat actually penetrates the skin, turning light into warmth instantly. It’s basically “spot heating.” You get a concentrated blast of warmth right where you need it most.
Building it to last
Bathrooms are tough on electronics—lots of steam and dust. To keep the tubes from burning out, we use high-purity quartz glass and make sure the housing is IP-rated. That’s just a fancy way of saying it’s sealed tight against moisture. We also use polished aluminum or gold-coated reflectors. These act like a mirror for the heat, pushing the infrared rays forward toward you instead of letting them soak into the wall. A quick tip on the wiring: we use heat-resistant terminals so nothing melts under a heavy load. And if you’re installing these in a big hotel, just double-check your circuit breakers. There’s a quick spike in power the moment they click on, and you don’t want to trip the power for the whole floor.
A few things to keep in mind
Here’s the catch: this heat is directional. If you step a few feet away from the mirror, you’ll feel the chill again. These aren’t meant to heat the entire room—they’re for that specific moment of comfort while you’re getting ready. Also, safety first. We always include a thermal cutoff switch. That way, if someone accidentally hangs a damp towel over the heater, the system shuts down before the mirror glass gets too hot.
