Stop Stepping Onto a Freezing Bathroom Floor
We’ve all been there. It’s 6 AM in the dead of winter, you step out of bed, and the second your feet hit the bathroom tile, you wake up faster than any cup of coffee could ever manage. It’s brutal. Most heaters try to warm up the air, but that takes forever—especially if your bathroom is drafty. That’s why I’m a huge fan of infrared (IR) heaters. Instead of fighting the air, they send heat straight to your skin. It’s like stepping into a beam of sunlight. How it actually works Inside these units are short-wave or medium-wave lamps. The magic here is speed. The moment you flip the switch—or tap an app—the filament glows and you feel the heat instantly. There’s no waiting for a fan to push warm air around the room. You just feel it. Right away. Making it “Smart” Now, the real luxury comes when you connect these to your home system via Wi-Fi or Zigbee. I love setting up a “Pre-heat” routine. You can sync it with your alarm so that by the time you’ve stretched and rubbed your eyes, the bathroom is already toasted. You just tell your voice assistant, “Make the bathroom warm,” and the smart relay does the heavy lifting behind the scenes. Simple. A few things to watch out for Before you go all-in, there are two things you need to keep in mind. First, these lamps pull a lot of power. If you try to cram three or four high-wattage heaters onto one old circuit, you’re probably going to trip your breaker. It’s a headache you don’t want. I usually suggest running a dedicated line for the heating zone just to be safe. Also, remember that IR heat is directional. It’s like a flashlight, but with warmth. If you put the heater in a weird corner where it can’t “see” you, you’ll still end up with some chilly spots. Position them where you actually stand—like right in front of the vanity or next to the shower. Get the placement right, and your winter mornings just got a whole lot better.
